Children's Rights in Goa (CRG) Children's Rights
in Goa (CRG), a programme of Vikas Adhyayan Kendra, is involved in child protection
and the advocacy of children's rights. Its activities are concentrated in
the coastal belt of North Goa. Although Goa is considered
as one of the more prosperous states in India, it is not free of problems. Some
of the problems faced by children that CRG has identified are as follows:
- There are children in Goa who do not go to school and others
who drop out of school before reaching middle school.
- There
are child labourers (including domestic child workers), whose hours of work are
long and unregulated.
- Some children are forced to sell
their bodies or are victims of tourism related paedophilia.
- There
are children who may not face economic deprivation but who are physically, mentally
and/or sexually abused.
Support
received
CRG receives support from Aide a l' Enfance de l'Inde
(AEI), Luxembourg, through Terre des Hommes (TDH), Germany and from UNIFEM. CRG
has also received the support of CRY. Community members
in the areas that CRG works have been a source of constant support, generously
giving of their time and/or resources. A few individuals
have also extended help to CRG in various ways, acting as resource persons, advising
us on particular issues, providing professional services to CRG, giving donations
or simply extending their good will. CRG's effectiveness
has been enhanced because of the constant support it receives from its many well
wishers. |
